Sydney's Story

In the summer of 2023 Omega Strikers team was invited to the Battle for Texas LAN (Local Area Network/In-person) in Dallas. We competed against 9 other Texas schools, and it was honestly something that made me enjoy Esports a lot more. LANs are such a different environment as you get to see how nice everyone is, and it makes competing a lot more fun. For example, even as competitors trying to win, everybody would praise and congratulate each other. My favorite memory from the LAN was when Southwestern Assemblies of God University invited us to their campus the night before the competition for a fun “pre-LAN” LAN party. It was great as they got us pizza and we even all went to go play Sand volleyball afterwards.

Sydney’s experience as a Female in Esports

When I first joined, I was a little nervous because I noticed there were not many women in the Esports Club. However, soon after meeting everyone I really vibed and meshed well with the community. Honestly Esports is the main reason I have friends at Texas State. So, I would absolutely recommend other women to not shy away from joining Texas State Esports because it really is a welcoming community.
