Enrique's Story
In the 2022 spring LoL season our League team made its best run ever. We had qualified to playoff’s multiple years in a row now, but we just dominated the competition that semester. League playoffs was only top 8 for over 60 teams in the Southeastern Conference, and we just made it in taking the 6th seed. Our first match was against Arizona State University, the 3rd seed and previous conference champions. It was no easy feat but with great planning and strategy we were able to overcome ASU in a close 2-1 series. Now came semi-finals and this was our ticket to the national playoffs. We faced off against University of North Texas, the 2nd seed, and this time it was a clean 2-0 sweep. For the conference finals, we went up against the University of Central Florida, the 1st seed. Although our ticket to the nationals was already secured, we still so badly wanted to bring it home. And we did just that with an extremely close 2-1 victory over UCF. With that win, my team became the 2022 Southeast Conference Champions and headed to nationals where we would place top 8. I still remember it so fondly because it meant so much to me and my teammates. We were the underdogs who took out the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd seed to win the whole conference. It was a great moment and you bet my team and I celebrated properly after that. I have been a part of Texas State Esports going on 5 years now and I am so grateful for everyone that I have met through it. Finding a community on campus like this one can make your whole college experience, at least it definitely did for me. If I could say one thing to incoming students, it’s that you do not have to be an insanely good gamer to play in Texas State Esports. Although we value competing, we also are a place where people can come to have fun and play games with a fun and open community.
