Cade's Story

In February 2023, the CoD (Call of Duty) Team went to North Carolina to compete against 12 other Universities at a LAN event. The cool thing about it is that the CoD scene is a very tight-knit community of friends, so we were able to finally put faces to the names of people that we’ve known and competed against for so long. We all even went to Top Golf as a big group and had lots of fun. Although I have been a competitive person all my life, I can definitely say that all my favorite moments while being on the Team are outside the game just having a blast with my boys. We did end up placing 4th place at the LAN but, being able to travel and compete for Texas State University with my friends was a really great experience. I’d also like to say that my teammates, Drako, Scripts, Chimpy, and myself were all a part of the original TXST Esports CoD team and we really formed a special bond over the years that allowed our team to consistently be in the top 12 teams nationally. Many who are not familiar with Esports might view it as just playing video games but to us it was a very personal thing to try and work as hard as we could in order to keep up with other programs who are monetarily funded to be the best team. Although Texas State Esports is currently lacking in terms of funding and university support, it makes up for it with its atmosphere and community. Even outside of the CoD team, our other games as far as I have seen usually have strong bonds and are good friends which help them do better in their competitions. Esports has really given me the opportunity to build deep bonds with people who I otherwise probably would’ve never met. To those incoming students, I’d just like you to know that it will be a lot of work, but the payoff is going to be what you make of it. So don’t be afraid to get after it, show up to tryouts, meet new people, and have fun.
